DR. EDWARD BACH & THE FLOWER REMEDIES
Dr. Edward Bach (1886-1936) studied medicine at the University College Hospital in London. Despite the success of his work with orthodox medicine he felt dissatisfied with the way doctors were expected to concentrate on diseases and ignore the people who were suffering them. From 1919-1922 he worked as a pathologist and bacteriologist at the London Homeopathic Hospital . There he was struck by the fact that Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy, had recognised the importance of personality in disease 150 years before. Combining these principles with his knowledge of orthodox medicine, he concluded that ,independently of other factors, mood and a negative attitude predisposed people toward ill health, and that illness was a manifestation of a deepr disharmony or an indication that the personality was in conflict. Between 1928 and 1932 he identified seven main negative states and found the first 12 of the flower remedies he needed to adderss them. Over the subsequent few years, he dedicated himself to finding natural remedies from the countryside, and at his death had made 38 remedies.
